World Leaders

1 Timothy 2:1-3
“Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour”.

Psalm 33:12 (NLT)
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance”.

Psalm 2:8-11 (NLT)

Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. You will break [a] them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve theLORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
  • There are no authorities except the ones chosen by God.
  • God instructs us to obey them because it is Him that has put them in that place of authority.
  • But it becomes a bone of contention when we have to obey rules and regulations that go against our Christian beliefs.
  • Kim Jong-un of North Korea expects everyone to worship him as if he were god.
  • This is the law of that land passed by those in leadership and whether they like it or not they have to obey and yet the Gospel of Christ says in Luke 4:8
  • “Worship the Lord your God and only Him shall you serve”
  • The North Korean regime continues to persecute anyone practising religion within its borders.
  • Another one, due to the recent Supreme Court decision to legalize gay marriage, the owners of an Oregon bakery were fined $135 000 for denying service to a gay couple.
  • Laws and regulations passed by those in authority over nations have a profound impact on its citizens.
  • Some of these laws as you can see go against our religious beliefs. And when that happens who do you obey, the law or the Word of God.
  • To stop and even overturn such laws and regulations we must fight in prayer, “for the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force” Matt 11:12
  • God is saying to us if only we would ask Him just like the daughters of Zelophehad went boldly before Moses to request for their father’s inheritance.
“Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots”.
  • With our prayers, we will ask for possession of these nations and declare a Godly inheritance over them.
  • The iron rod of the Word of God will break every heart of stone, starting from the leaders, for it is a broken and a contrite spirit that God desires.
  • When the leaders become broken, when they are led by the Spirit of God rather than by their selfish desires then it cascades down to the rest of the people.
  • Too many world leaders are in it just for what they can gain and not for the people of the land.
  • That is why we need to pray that God will choose leaders of moral and spiritual integrity, leaders who will put God first, followed by the needs of the people before their own personal gain.
  • Strong and courageous Christian leaders can greatly influence the path the people of that nation will take and can point many to the way of the Cross.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord we thank you for those leaders around the world who are seeking to abide by the truth of Your Word, use them Lord as tools to maintain justice and righteousness over the nations.

2. Father, we lift men and women whom You have called into these leadership positions and let them give You first place in their lives and seek You diligently in prayer when they are called upon to make difficult decisions that affect the lives of so many people.

3. Lord we lift up all kings & queens, governors, presidents and those in high positions; may You bring many to faith in the Lord Jesus, so that we may live peaceably in this world into which You have placed us.

4. Father set up godly men and women in positions of leadership and power in our own nation and in all the nations who will exercise authority in our world today.

Psalm 2:10-11 “Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling”.

5. Lord let the world leaders seek after wisdom and justice, mercy and truth, freedom, godly grace and a desire to know You more and more.

6. Father let all those world leaders who are deliberately opposing Your will and pushing an anti-God agenda be removed from their office and that their plans and purposes would be exposed, and become ineffective.
